"GOOD GIRLS ONLY"
The Rehearsal Club Musical
telling our story on the stage . . .
It began with one song . . .

Once upon a time, our current Chair, Denise Pence, went to lunch with her good friend Charles Leipart and told him how she first came to New York:  she wrote a letter from college to Mrs. Clayton, the Housemother at The Rehearsal Club, pleading her case - "I'm a really good girl, I don't even have a traffic ticket!"  Thus came the title of his first song, Good Girls Only.

Later, as Co-President for Arts & Media Coalition, she -- with support from their fabulous Board of Directors -- was able to produce "VintAGE: Celebrating Women Artists Over 40."  RC Alum and Honorary Chair, Kathleen Conry , directed a scene from Stage Door which then transitioned into debuting our title song, Good Girls Only .  Pictured above are RC Alums (left to right), Rise Clemmer, Diane Findlay, Terry Baughan , Melinda Tanner , Kathleen Conry .

This inspired two more songs . . .

Now armed with three songs: ONE DRESS, JIMMY, GOOD GIRLS ONLY -- and no $$$, Denise researched and submitted a proposal to Equity to celebrate the "Women of 1913," the year Equity was formed, the Rehearsal Club was created, Shaw wrote Pygmalion and the Ziegfeld Follies opened at The New Amsterdam.  In collaboration again with the talented Kathleen Conry as Director, Larry Spivack as Musical Director and many of our RC women  performing, we presented Union Women @ Work: Inspiration In Motion at The York Theater in 2012.

. . . and the full Rehearsal Club Musical was born!

In our Centennial Year, 2013, again with the behind the scenes talents of  Kathleen Conry , Director; Larry Spivack, Music, Denise Pence , Producer and Steve Boockvor , Sound, we presented a staged reading of eleven songs and a semi-developed outline for the fuller (now completed) book.  Enhanced by the awesome contributions of Broadway talents, Jane Summerhays, George Lee Andrews, Victoria Mallory, Ernestine Jackson, Randy Graff and Mary Lou Barber, we performed at The Professional Children's School in New York (Trivia experts note:  The PCS first opened its doors in the basement of the RC).  Newcomer, Jamey Grisholm not only performed, but went on to collaborate as composer.   Contact Charles Leipart for more info on the completed script.

Special THANK YOU to everyone at the Metro, especially the Sanctuary Arts  and Honorary Chair, Kathy Conry for the introduction and for their support throughout the rehearsal process for all of these productions.  Donation of their space was truly a God-sent gift.
