Two-time Helen Hayes Award nominee ANDREA FRIERSON has performed leading roles in numerous Broadway  productions, including The Lion King; Once on This Island (Erzulie, Goddess of Love, original cast); Marie Christine at Lincoln Center Theater; George Wolfe's Bring in 'Da noise/Funk; Julie Taymor and Elliot Goldenthal's Juan Darien: A Carnival Mass, and For Colored Girls....(original Broadway production).  Regional Theatre roles include: Dr. Charlotte in Falsettos (Hartford Stage Co.), Aretha Franklin/Tina Turner in Beehive! (Arena Stage, Washington, DC), The Queen in Cymbeline (Utah Shakespearean Festival) and Lisa in A New Brain (Studio Theatre, Washington, DC).  Off-Broadway, Andrea performed the role of Dr. Charity in Above Hell's Kitchen (NYMF) with British Indie Rock artist Jonathan Spottiswoode, and more recently, in the Inner Voices solo theatre piece, Grace, written by Kirsten Childs and Charlene Woodard.  Television:  Allegra's Window (series regular); Elementary on CBS (2017) and a current episode of the Amazon tv series, Red Oaks.  She was also featured in an Emmy award-winning episode of  the FX comedy series, Louie.

Andrea was a five-time winner and semi-finalist on the popular mid-1980's tv series, Star Search and opened the Jazzport festival at the South Street Seaport as a featured vocalist with Lionel Hampton and his orchestra. 

Her first play with music, Lady Be Good, was presented by Lincoln Center Theatre in a five-day workshop, and her musical, Soon of a Mornin' was an invited show in the 2005 NYMF Festival.  This past spring her short play, No Mockingbirds on Fridays was featured in Articulate Theatre Company's theatre event, "Tales in Time". 

Andrea is a graduate of the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Academy for Classical Acting MFA program, and is a Dramatists Guild Fellow, a NYSCA grant recipient, and a Library of Congress Award-winner (American Folklife).  An excerpt from Me & Ella was featured in the Apollo Theatre's 2017 Ella Fitzgerald centennial celebration, and most recently Me & Ella enjoyed a successful limited run at the York Theatre as part of their New 2 NY series.
